Melitopol and Kamyana Mohyla

Matviy Andreyev

Literally a couple of words about these two subjects separated by 15 kilometers..

Melitopol

The train from Kyiv passed through Melitopol early in the morning. I was met with an empty and foggy street.

One of buildings of the regional hospital was being held together by metal cables.

This hospital grounds were called «dvadtsatka» (twenty) because of the bus route that had its end here. It had been a long time ago. There were no buses, and marshrutkas which replaced them did not use route numbers, preferring texts like «N. Melitop.», «c.. market» instead.

One more building stood on the hospital grounds, an unfinished one. The kids liked to play there very much. It had a nice view from top, being prominent among the low district of private houses. The construction stopped with the fall of USSR.

Kamyana Mohyla

This state archaeological reserve could be reached by several ways, one of them having this tunnel made of tree canopies in the Myrne settlement:

Two more kilometers of road were left to the Kamyana Mohyla entry. We decided to walk, and saw many insects crossing that road, risking their lives very much:

Directions to Kamyana Mohyla

2025: There's war going on, and no simple way to visit it exists now. The below directions were given during normal life.

On Google Maps

By public transport from Melitopol: marshrutkas to Myrne or Kamyana Mohyla from the bus station near central market.

Кам'яна могила 1,6 км / Kamennaya mogila (Stone grave)

The entry fee was UAH 2.50, with discounts for students and other categories of people. Excursions were offered for UAH 20. Free entry through holes in the fence existed, taking into the account the Molochna river passing through the territory, but the staff had started waging war against the free visitors. Local guys were hired to guard the fence holes and to obstruct the paths with tree branches.

We paid and enjoyed the 360° view of the sky from the rocks.

Kamyana Mohyla

This photo is available on Wikimedia Commons, to where it found its way from the Flickr account that I once had.

The edge of Terpinnia village was visible from the rocks.

Back to Melitopol

A view of garages and platforms of the train station for the history. Photo taken from the pedestrian bridge.

Metal beams of pedestrian overpass had the year of that beam production welded on it, as well as the name of a german factory «Krupp 1933»:
