We came early. The castle has been closed yet, so we went around it.
The castle was combining nicely with the grass, the tarmac and poles of the electric grid.
This old Mercedes car also combined well with the upper-mentioned.
This bad road was going to the neighboring villages. People commute to work everyday under this ancient wall, inside marshrutkas of Bohdan, Mercedes brands, and probably do not even look at the historic building and how well does it combine with the surrounding modern stuff.
The castle finally opened. We saw a tower, three museums, administration, a souvenir shop with a bad coffee shop, and — of course — a church inside it.
It also had nice black benches and a beautiful tree, but no good coffee or tea to drink while sitting on these. Bring your own!
An old KhTZ tractor was on display in the castle.
This nice ladder was not for the visitors, unfortunately. The staff were doing some wall maintenance.
The tower was the most interesting item from that list. It underwent restoration, and had steep, narrow stairway up.
Many wooden beams were supporting the roof.
The neighboring village Stavnytsia was visible from one of the windows of the tower.
The pond on the Southern Bug river could be seen through another window that had a dirty glass.
We went out and saw the empty, quiet Medzhybizh.
Food kiosks in the center.
A cow was being accompanied on its way to the pasture.
A goat was already there.
A device for collecting used batteries and a pit to an old water source.
The following was listed as tourist destinations on Medzhybizh: the castle, the pillar chapel, the rotund chapel, and the ruined temple of the holy trinity. Having checked the castle out, we decided to visit everything else.
The pillar chapel was an old pole, or a column right in the middle of someone's garden. I think they were growing potatoes here. It was not clear, what should have been considered chapel in this column. A random woman was passing by and guessed that this was not a chapel at all, but a former «sign of a craftsmen village». I think that we wasted our time here.
The rotund chapel was indeed a round building, which was also standing on private territoty. Another random woman was passing by and was very surprised that someone had been calling this a chapel. Then she recalled that her mother told her that deceased were left inside for one night, and because of that she agreed that this can be called a chapel. I think that we wasted our time here, too.
The ruins if the Holy Trinity temple were indeed ruins, and indeed of a temple. The remnants were completely unmaintained.
Look at this nice fresh tarmac. This road went to other neighboring villages, and it definitely was one of the best pieces of pavement in the whole Khmelnytskiy region — which has the worst roads in Ukraine as per my opinion based on personal, on-the-ground experience.
A playground for the kids.
Table tennis equipment near the school.
House of culture.
A water well near the church.
The true cobbles of the Pushkinska street.
The longest river completely within the borders of Ukraine, the Southern Bug flows near Medzhybizh, and has a small water reservoir here.
The force of the water falling from that reservoir was being used in this little hydroelectric power plant, which, I guess, is already inside the village line of the neighboring Trebukhivtsi.
The same force had been previously used inside this former water mill.
